Cultural Significance of Varalakshmi Nombu
Varalakshmi Nombu is one of the most cherished festivals in Tamil Brahmin households, observed primarily by married women to invoke the blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi. This festival symbolizes prosperity, well-being, and harmony in the family. Women perform special poojas, tying the sacred yellow thread (saradu) and adorning the Goddess with flowers, fruits, and traditional offerings.
On this sacred day, it is customary for women to wear the Madisar saree, representing purity and devotion, while men often wear the Panchakacham veshti during the pooja.
